Concern & action: Appropriate siting
Site conditions (e.g. exact location, orientation, wind availability) have an effect on measure's suitability. Inappropriate sitting reduces the energy yield of the technology
Suggested actions
Before Implementation
Carry out site analysis including the building location and orientation, the exposure of the site, prevailing weather and solar aspect. Review location and orientation site conditions against optimum requirements for specific technologies (e.g. photovoltaics installed SW to SE, check wind conditions prior to installing wind turbines). Assess the location and orientation most appropriate for the proposed technology and optimise its siting.
During implementation
Check that the location and orientation chosen for the technology follows recommendations to maximise its output.
